Hilary Greenwald is an artist originally from Pennsylvania whose art mediums range from acrylic painting, wood burning, mixed-media glass mosaics, and pen-and-ink. She was interested in art from an early age and began to seriously pursue art in high school. In 2009 she attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania for art studio and art history. Then, in 2016 she became an active member of the Indiana Art Association for three years serving on the board as the secretary and scholarship chair. During that time, she won awards in the Annual IAA Spring Shows held at the Artist Hand Gallery and Annual Open Arts Shows in 2016-2018 for her mixed-media glass painting and mosaic work. Also, Hilary has sold artworks in multiple venues such as craft shows, hospitals, and restaurants.
In 2019, Hilary moved to West Virginia and began studying Biblical Counseling/Women’s Ministries at Appalachian Bible College where she learned to use art in counseling practice and church ministry. In the four years she has attended, Hilary has worked with the Music Department for stage art and design for their annual concerts. During this time she had art for sale in the Love Hope Arts Center for the Arts in Fayetteville and was a member of the Beckley Art Center.
In 2024 Hilary graduated from Appalachian Bible College and traveled north to Maine where she discovered her joy for using art in camp ministry and writing art curriculum. While living in Maine she was inspired by the natural beauty of the ocean to the south and the mountains to the west. In January she moved to Maine where she now resides and hopes to further connect with the art community and continue to use art in ministry and in teaching. She currently a member of the Mount Washington Valley Art Association and has artwork in the MWVAA Main Street Art Gallery in North Conway, NH and Full Circle Artisan Gallery in Cornish, ME.
Artist Statement: Hilary seeks to use her art to evoke a sense of curiosity and wonder in her audience through the use of intricate line, texture, and color. She explores a variety of art mediums believing that growing in one medium will bring further skill and competency in another. The beauty of the world around her in nature is a major inspiration in her work.
Hilary often works with repurposed objects such as broken picture frames, glass, and ordinary objects like pieces of wood. Despite her visual challenges, she uses line, color, and texture to explore depth and to express the world around her. This philosophy parallels her personal walk of faith as a follower of Christ of making beauty from brokenness and wonder from the ordinary. She aspires to combine art and faith to bring joy and help others find hope in their life.
